Overall, it was a really great experience. The race itself was well organized, and the setting made it even better. However, the early start time caught me off guard a bit. I drove straight through to Arizona to pick up my race bib and packet, which made for a long stretch with little rest. That late start from AZ was definitely a self-inflicted challenge.

I did stay at a nice hotel and slept well, but sometimes travel fatigue lingers more than you expect on race morning.

The race took place at Balboa Park, and it’s always beautiful and well maintained. Running in that setting definitely adds something special to the experience. I felt strong for most of the race and was happy with how I performed overall.

For those who may not know, AFC stands for America’s Finest City — which is San Diego, California.
