First race

I signed up for my first race of the year—the Taco 5K—after coming back from an injury and acknowledging you’re not bouncing back quite as fast as you used to. The event caught your attention because it’s fun and different: instead of being all about speed, it celebrates community, local businesses, and the joy of tacos. It started in Encinitas and is now expanding to other cities. And honestly, it feels like the perfect fit for me since you love both tacos and 5Ks.

This isn’t just about running a race—it’s about getting back out there. I’m choosing something playful and low-pressure as your re-entry point, which is smart. It shows I’m trying to prioritize enjoyment, connection, and sustainability over competition.

There’s also a bit of intuition here—it“called my name.” That usually means I must be ready, even though I’m easing back in. The tacos part? What a reward 😄

This race represents a reset. Not chasing my old pace, but redefining what “showing up” looks like now—and making it fun enough that I’ll keep going. Plus it’s for my boy AJ always.
